Membership Info

Welcome to our community

We are a co-op gym – member owned and operated – and that means you are going to be part of our “For climbers. By climbers” mantra.  This also means that we don’t have staff at all times, so bear with us and we will bring you into the fold.  Once you become a member, you will have access to the gym from 6 AM to 11 PM, 7 days a week!

What’s expected of you as a member

As a co-op gym we don’t have any staff.  We aren’t able to offer much in the way of classes, although from time to time we do.  However, we generally expect that you already have a little experience climbing and would be able to pass a top rope test (both climbing and belaying) before you join the gym.  If you don’t know how to climb yet that’s OK!  Breckenridge Recreation Center offers introductory climbing classes.  You can find the list on their website here.  Their “Learn to Lead” class will teach you everything you need to know to become a member.  Breck Rec offers the class by appointment – just call anytime up to the day before to set up a class.  They’re typically one hour long and cost $30 per person.  Save your receipt for the class and bring it to the gym when you sign up and we’ll waive the $50 initiation fee.

There are a number of things that need to be routinely done at the gym, and we ask that all members chip in and help when they’re able to.  These tasks include cleaning the bathrooms, vacuuming, sweeping, washing holds, emptying trash cans, putting out the trash and recycling, stripping old boulder problems, etc. – anything that helps the gym looking good and running smoothly.  If you’re not sure what you can do to pitch in, just ask someone!

Otherwise we just want you to enjoy climbing and get to know the fantastic community of climbers at the Summit Climbing Gym!

Youth Members

  • All youth five years old, and older, must be paid members of SCG. Climbers under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult or other member while using the facility.

  • The board may vote to allow children under 16, but over 13, to have access during normal operating hours without an adult or other member present.

  • A parent must sign waivers for any youth using the gym facilities.

Rates & How to Join

Membership Rates

All memberships also require a one-time $50 initiation fee for new members.  (Please note that this does not apply to the $20 day pass.)

  • Annual membership – $700

  • Annual family membership – $1,400 (includes a person, their spouse, and dependent children)

  • 6-month membership – $400

  • Monthly membership – $70

  • 10-Punch Pass, valid for 3 consecutive months – $150

  • Guest Pass – $20 (for non-members visiting the gym with a member)

Guests/Day Pass

SCG members may bring guests to the gym to climb. Guests must sign a waiver, purchase a Guest Day Pass and pass applicable Certification tests prior to climbing.

PLEASE NOTE: The Summit Climbing Gym is a co-op gym.  All of the money for memberships goes into keeping the gym running.  EVERYONE visiting the gym must have signed a waiver and pay for their use of the gym (either via a day pass, punch pass, or monthly/annual membership).  If you are caught bringing someone to the gym who has not paid for their visit, YOUR membership will be terminated with NO refund.

JOINING IS EASY – In Person OR Online

  1. Sign the Summit Climbing Gym Waiver (online)

  2. Purchase a membership

  3. Complete belay/lead tests

  4. Receive a key fob for gym access

How to join IN PERSON

Signing up in person is the easiest and fastest way to get your membership and have any additional questions answered. (Plus you’ll be able to get a key fob that will allow you to get into the gym every day from 6 AM to 11 PM and take the belay/lead climbing tests.)  Since we’re just a co-op, we have limited staffed hours.  Volunteers are available to assist with all memberships Monday through Thursday from 6 PM to 8 PM.  Please ring the doorbell if the door is shut.  Once you get into the gym find the volunteer in the fluorescent yellow shirt and they’ll be able to help you.  If you don’t see a yellow shirt, feel free to ask anyone in the gym who the volunteer on duty is.

The volunteer will show you how to set up an account on MindBody online (which you can also do on your own – see the instructions in the next section below) and they’ll get you set up with a key fob.  They’ll also give you a quick overview of how the gym works and what is expected of you as a member.  They’ll also give you a belay test (either top rope or lead, depending on your comfort and experience level).

How to join ONLINE

SCG uses MindBody Online to manage memberships, and you have to set up an account to become a member. Once you setup your account, you can manage your membership, view visit history, and more!

  1. CLICK HERE and create an account with MindBody Online, our online membership portal.

  2. Once you are logged in, click the “online store” tab at the top-right corner of the screen.

  3. Click “Contracts” for monthly, 6-month, and annual passes. Click “Services” for 10-punch passes. New members select “Initial” contracts, which include the $50 Initiation Fee

Don’t forget – Once you purchase your membership online, come to the gym during volunteer staff hours to complete your belay/lead tests and receive a key-fob.

Can’t make it during volunteer staff hours?

No problem! Please email summitclimbing970@gmail.com to schedule a time with staff.

Certifications

All members and member guests must be certified to climb by successfully passing tests administered by either a volunteer staff member or member of the board of directors.

It is solely the member’s responsibility to ensure they have been properly tested and that their successful performance on the required test has been properly recorded in their member documentation.

Required certifications include:

1. Belay Test:
All belayers will be tested and certified prior to being allowed to belay within the facility. Two belay tests are offered:

  • Top Rope Belay Test

  • Lead Belay Test

2. Lead Climbing Test:
Prior to engaging in lead climbing, the member must pass a lead climbing test.

3. Auto Belay Test:
Prior to using the installed Auto Belay devices, members need to receive instruction in the proper use of auto belay equipment. The auto belay units are manufactured by TruBlue.

When to get certified

Gym volunteers are on site Monday through Thursday from 6pm to 8pm. Certifications can be completed at that time. To inquire about scheduling another time to complete certifications, please email summitclimbing970@gmail.com.
